THE BRONX - Hard work has paid off for one Bronx teen, who will be heading off to an Ivy League school in August.
Jocely Lopez, a student at the Bronx School for Law, Government and Justice, will attend Columbia University. She applied to 22 institutions, including Brown and Cornell, and was not rejected from a single one.
Third in her high school class, Lopez says she was in disbelief when she received her acceptance letter. Her parents say they could not be prouder.
Lopez has also received a $20,000 scholarship from 32BJ, which is the labor union that her parents belong to. The union awards scholarships every year to the sons and daughters of its members who receive good grades.
Lopez will study environmental science at Columbia.
