THE BRONX - A necktie has become much more than a piece of clothing for a group of teens at Monroe College.
The school celebrated its fifth annual Male Empowerment event, which pairs mentors with local high school students.
It was founded by Monroe alum and Bronx native Cecil Wright. He says it's all about empowering today's youth to use education as a tool to change their lives, and as a reminder that all things are possible.
The event is capped off each year with a symbolic tying of ties, marking the young men's transition from students into manhood.
