MORRIS HEIGHTS - Kids at P.S. 306 are learning all about language and performance through songwriting.

Over the course of four weeks, artists Jason and Martin are teaching third-graders all they need to know. The two men are part of a program called Accentuate the Positive.

The program is sponsored by the Johnny Mercer Foundation and the Kaufman Music Center. The goal is to bring music education to lower income schools.

The teachers say they love sharing new skills with the kids, and the students say it's given them new perspective and new dreams.

For the third-graders at P.S. 306, music isn't a part of their regular curriculum. So, for a lot of the kids, this is their first exposure to making music.
