THE BRONX - Poet and performer Maria Aponte has released a new book about her experiences in the Bronx.

"Transitions of a Nuyorican Cinderella" tells the story of a Puerto Rican immigrant family living in New York City.

"It's a compilation of poetry pieces, prose pieces," she says. "I start with things from my childhood growing up in El Barrio and then I end the book with being where I am today. Bronxite. Norwood section. Woohoo!"

The book won second place at the International Latino Book Awards earlier this summer.
