CO-OP CITY - A Bronx native is working to make a name for himself as a performer, with a new single and a starring role in an independent film.

Christopher Estrada, from Co-op City, says he was inspired to follow his dreams of acting and singing when he was sick in bed for over a month, worried he wasn't living his life fully. He then quit his job to devote himself to singing and acting.

Estrada will be starring in the independent movie "Heartland," which starts filming next week. In the movie, he plays the father of a 13-year-old girl who's getting bullied in school.

His first single is currently playing in local clubs with its follow-up, "I Want More," premiering in March.
