THE BRONX - One woman is being hailed as an unsung hero and a pillar of support for many Bronx residents in need.

Vilma Torres serves as the Bronx director of the New York City Family Justice Center at Safe Horizon, where she provides emotional support and free counseling.

The organization is funded by private and corporate donors, and has locations throughout the city.
