MOTT HAVEN - Some bicyclists decided that they would rather visit chickens than grill them during the Memorial Day weekend.

They biked to various chicken coops and community gardens along a 5-mile route for the second annual "Chicken Coopapalooza" on Saturday.

"We want people to come out, to exercise and eat healthy," said Karen Washington, of Garden of Happiness.

Organizers said the event exposes children and adults to a different side of the Bronx. Participants handled chickens and learned how to care for them.

One stop included the Brook Park Chickens coop in Mott Haven.
