THE BRONX - The Washington Bridge may get a name change if one local councilman gets his way.

Councilman Fernando Cabrera submitted a bill to change the name of the Washington Bridge in Manhattan to the David Dinkins Washington Bridge in honor of the former NYC mayor.

He says the name change is to honor the legacy of the city's first African-American mayor.

The bridge built in 1888 was designed by William Rich Hutton and Edward H. Kendall. It connects University Avenue to Amsterdam Avenue.
