BROOKLYN - A comic book artist from Brooklyn has created a female Latina superhero series named La Borinquena.
 
Artist Edgardo Miranda was signing copies of Borinquena at El Puente in Williamsburg earlier this week.
 
He says La Borinquena is a Puerto Rican woman from Brooklyn who only discovers she has superpowers after returning home to her island nation. 
 
Edgardo says La Borinquena can fly and control weather, and she also inspires others to do better. 
 
"It kind of reminds us that our superpowers are always there, it's our kind of 'Puerto Ricaness' that's within us. Once we tap into that, we can overcome any obstacle that we're facing."
