NEW YORK - (AP) - Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the edge ofHurricane Irene is reaching the New York City, and it's no longersafe to be outside.

After days of urging residents of flood-prone areas to evacuate,the mayor said Saturday night the weather was getting sotreacherous that anyone who hasn't left should stay put. The cityhad ordered about 370,000 residents of low-lying areas to leave by5 p.m. Saturday.

Bloomberg says "now the time is to focus on what to do whereyou are."

Bloomberg is urging all residents to take such precautions asmoving away from windows and filling bathtubs with water in casepower goes out and water can't be pumped.
