Bloomberg to officiate at staffers' gay marriage

NEW YORK - (AP) - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg will officiateat one of the city's first same-sex marriages - the union of twotop staffers in his administration.

Bloomberg plans to preside over the wedding of John Feinblatt,Bloomberg's chief policy adviser, and Department of ConsumerAffairs Commissioner Jonathan Mintz. They've been together for 14years and have two young daughters. Bloomberg said Thursday he's"honored to be part of it."

The nuptials, first reported in The New York Times, are plannedfor July 24. That's the day that a new state law legalizing gaymarriage goes into effect.

Officials have said they expect a rush of interest on thatSunday, and New York City clerks' offices are taking the unusualstep of opening on a day when government offices normally areclosed.
