MORRIS HEIGHTS - A broken elevator in a Bronx building is causing a health risk for some residents.

The elevator, which has been broken for months, is forcing residents in Morris Heights to walk up and down multiple flights of stairs.

Some residents in the building are asthmatic, making it hard to breathe when climbing the stairs. Another tenant has had heart failure and missed doctor's appointments because she can't walk up and down the six flights of stairs to her apartment.

According to the Department of Buildings, there is an active elevator violation that dates back to Feb. 2012.

News 12 The Bronx reached out to Prestige Management, who oversees the building, and was told they are waiting for permits and getting the necessary part to fix it.
