THE BRONX - A broken fire hydrant in Soundview has neighbors worried that it could pose a major safety hazard.

The hydrant is lying on its side at the intersection of Watson and Manor avenues. Residents say it could burst any minute and harm children who often play on the sidewalk. They say it may also pose a threat if pushed into oncoming traffic.

Opened hydrants can lower water pressure and hinder firefighters in case of emergency because it reduces the flow of water to hoses and pumps.

A complaint has already been filed to fix the hydrant. To report an improperly opened hydrant, residents can call 311.
