THE BRONX - A 16-year-old Bronx girl is dead after being struck by a tractor-trailer in Manhattan.

Police say Renee Thompson was crossing 3rd Avenue at East 60th Street when the driver of the truck hit her at around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The Morris Heights teen had been on her way home from work, family members say. She was unresponsive when emergency officials arrived and pronounced dead at the scene.

Thompson was an honor student who planned on enrolling in college courses at Hunter College this month. Loved ones say she was the youngest of three children and had dreams of becoming a lawyer.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
