Bronx activist faces deportation

THE BRONX - A Bronx activist who has been living in the borough and helping his community for the last 25 years is now facing deportation.

Victor Toro is an undocumented immigrant from Chile who says he moved here in 1984 to escape the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. He now serves as a voice for immigrants' rights in the United States.

Toro also spends his days volunteering at the Bronx Spanish Evangelical Church, where congregants call him a pastor, counselor and an incredible person.

An appeals court must now overturn a previous ruling that Toro be sent back to Chile in order for him to stay.
