THE BRONX - Bronx AIDS Services urged all residents today to get tested for HIV to mark National Latino AIDS Awareness Day.

Statistics show that AIDS is the third leading cause of death among Latinos in the borough. The death rate from the disease is ten times higher in the Bronx than the national average.

Officials say residents can get tested for free at hospital emergency rooms. There are also two to three mobile units in the borough between five to seven days a week.

Health officials say the test is easy and offers results within 20 minutes.
