THE BRONX - A woman named as the "Bronx Ambassador" for the NYC Marathon says training for the race has helped her cope with loss.

Rachel Charlop-Powers' mother, Megan Charlop, was killed in a biking accident in the Bronx in 2010. Charlop-Powers says training has helped her heal.

"Marathoning was a wonderful way for me to experience if you put a little work in every day, you can deal with things that seem difficult to handle," says Charlop-Powers. She's being sponsored by the Foot Locker Five Borough Challenge, which sponsors runners who overcame personal adversity.

Charlop-Powers met with Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. on Friday and he named her the borough's ambassador, praising her for her resilience.
