Bronx Army reservist killed in Ga. shooting

BRONX - Master Sgt. Pedro Mercado died at the U.S. Army Reserve Centerlocated on Fort Gillem after he was shot several times Thursdayafternoon. The Bronx native was 47 and grew up in Mott Haven. He is survived by his wife and three children.

The suspect turned himself in and remains in custody.Authorities say his name will be released if charges are filed.

Mercado and the suspect were assigned to the Army MedicalDepartment Professional Management Command. The unit helps with therecruitment, retention and readiness of medical units andpersonnel.
