THE BRONX - One of the borough’s few art supply stores closed down Friday, citing financial problems.

Artist and Craftsman Supply on White Plains Road shut its doors for good at 5 p.m.

"It is with great regret that we must close our doors," the chain's regional manager told News 12 in a statement. "Unfortunately we cannot contemplate relocating at this time. It is quite likely we will investigate another location in the Bronx at some point in the future."

Residents say they are upset about the closure because of the convenience and selection the store provided. The store also offered art classes for the community.

Some supporters rallied Friday to protest the closing of one of just a few art stores in the Bronx. They told News 12 that local artists often have to travel to other boroughs in order to get supplies.

The protesters said they hoped to raise awareness about the lack of art resources in the Bronx and encourage entrepreneurs to open up a new shop.
