UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - Residents of a University Heights building are voicing their frustrations with what they say are decrepit living conditions.

Sarah Gale says she has been using a hot plate to boil water ever since a gas leak at 1 West 182 St. has forced residents to go without gas and hot water for days. She says there are other issues in her apartment as well.

?I can't even store food in my cabinets there are so many cockroaches,? Gale says. ?My pet's food I [keep] ? off the floor or else bugs crawl into them.?

An inspector for the city?s Department of Housing Preservation & Development visited the building and issued 13 violations for one apartment alone.

The inspector says the landlord will not turn on the gas lines until the leak is found. While the building?s landlord refused comment on the issue, a Con Ed crew is at work attempting to fix the leak.
