Bronx Charter School for Better Learning applying to SUNY for expansion

The school says it will build a second campus even if charter school funding is cut. (3/6/14)

THE BRONX - A charter school in Baychester is working to build a second campus, and says it will do it with or without the mayor's help.

The Bronx Charter School for Better Learning is requesting the go-ahead from SUNY to expand, saying that this year’s waitlist of 1,400 students proves that there’s a need in the community.

The school recognizes that money may be a challenge if Mayor Bill de Blasio succeeds in his efforts to ax charter school funding, but says that it will not deter it from finding a way to accommodate all students.

The director of the school says he will hand deliver the application to SUNY officials next week.
