Bronx churches on high alert after vandalism

THE BRONX - Some Parkchester churches are taking extra precautions after a local church was vandalized and set on fire Wednesday.

Messages and symbols of hate were discovered inside the Glory of God Church on Ellis Avenue, which was heavily damaged by fire, officials say.

In light of the incident, the reverend of a neighboring church says he plans to fix the outside security lights. Further security measures will be announced to the congregation over the weekend.

Some neighbors, however, say additional security may not necessarily prevent other houses of worship from being targeted.

"They can't always leave someone there 24 hours," says Joel Guante.
