THE BRONX - Bronx Community College was the spot for a celebration of the city's architectural attractions this weekend as a part of its Architecture and Arts Festival.

Four of the school's buildings are federal landmarks that the public got to tour Sunday. One of them, the Gould Memorial Library, built in the 1800s, is the focus of a potential restoration project.

Architect Sam White wants to spruce up and then find a use for the library. White is the great-grandson of Stanford White, the man who designed Bronx Community College's original campus in the 1890s.

Another figure that made the campus the iconic location it is today is artist Daniel Hauben, who created 22 paintings that hang in the campus' halls. Hauben says he made them to try to make the campus stand out and provide it identity.

The school doesn't just stand out for its art and architecture work, but also its auto tech program, which had its students build a 1965 Cobra on their own.
