THE BRONX - A City Council member wants the rising price of water in New York City to freeze for two years.

Councilman Jimmy Vacca (D-Bronx) says the price of water in New York City has gone up 78 percent since 2005. The rising price has been blamed on the construction of a water pipe from the city to the Catskills.

Vacca says the regressive fee is unfair to residents, especially those struggling to pay bills or facing foreclosure.

Vacca will propose his idea to the Water Board on Wednesday. He also plans on calling for an investigation as to why the price of water went up so much in just the last few years.
