BROOKLYN - After losing a loved one, a Bronx family is stepping up to help others give the gift of life.

Five years ago, Josefa Negron passed away after complications from knee surgery. But she was able to live longer than her family ever thought possible, thanks to generous blood and plasma donations.

Negron's family hosted a blood drive today, as they have done so every year since her death.

Their goal is to show their appreciation for all those who donated blood to Negron, and to help out others who need blood donations to survive.
