THE BRONX - An organization is taking trash from the street and turning it into cash to feed the homeless.

Save Me the Bottles and Cans collects recyclables and gives the money to Bronx homeless shelters, food pantries and needy people in the community.

Volunteers were in Bronx Park Sunday hosting a so-called “garbage party,” collecting and asking residents to donate their bottles and cans.

Creator Ennovy Wolf says she got the idea after her mother asked her to turn in some recyclables for cash, but gave it to the needy instead.

Wolf started the movement on Facebook, and it quickly grew into a weekly activity.

She says she wants everyone in the Bronx to think twice before trashing.

"You see trash, but I see buried treasure. I see a way to help others and homelessness. That is the most important thing to me," she says.

The organization says it has raised more than $5,000 in nearly three years.
