THE BRONX - A team of Bronx students has launched its very own science project into outer space.

Three Bronx High School of Science teens are one of only 11 teams nationwide to win a prestigious NASA competition, which put their experiment on board of a space shuttle that launched this week.

The project will compare how mushrooms grow in space without gravity with those growing here on Earth. They’ll begin analyzing the data once the shuttle returns.

The students worked on the idea for more than a year, and beat out more than 700 applicants.
