THE BRONX - The U.S. jobless rate fell to 7.8 percent last month, dropping below 8 percent for the first time in nearly four years, but those numbers aren't translating to The Bronx.

According to the state Labor Department, the borough has the highest unemployment rate in the state, with 13 percent of people out of work. There is hope for people struggling to get a job before the holidays. Major retailers are expected to hire throngs of seasonal workers, with Toys "R" Us expected to bring on 4,500 employees and Macy's expected to take on 80,000 workers nationwide. Prospective employees are being urged to apply now because those jobs will likely fill up fast.
