THE BRONX - A community in the Bronx is pushing for the right to fight.

Led by Bronx councilman Joel Rivers, fans are in favor of a bill to legalize mixed martial arts or MMA. The bill passed in the Senate recently and is now in the Assembly. If passed, the state will be responsible for setting safety standards.

MMA was previously outlawed for being too brutal. Fans say it's as technical as boxing and should be considered a sport.
