THE BRONX - One woman's work with cancer patients and her own battle with the disease led to an inspiring art exhibit at the Longwood Art Gallery at Hostos Community College.

Bronx native Esther Pagan's exhibit is called "My Colors of Cancer," and it features a calendar that has hats representing each month. Pagan says she first got the idea while working with cancer patients, but when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, she stepped up her efforts to raise money for cancer research.

She says making the calendar of hats has helped her heal after undergoing a double mastectomy.

The hat exhibit runs through Dec. 20.
