Bronx officer recovering after operation

THE BRONX - Officer Robert Salerno is recovering at Lincoln Hospital after an operation that removed two bullets from his torso.

Salerno, 25, was shot three times Monday when responding to a 911 call. Salerno told police that he was the first officer to open the door when suspect Santiago Urina fired shots from inside an apartment at 3073 Park Ave.

Salerno will remain at the hospital for observation.
