Bronx parents fight to save free day care centers

THE BRONX - Bronx parents took their fight to save free day care centers to the City Council today.

Hundreds of parents hand-delivered notes to council members calling on funding to be restored. Under Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposed budget cuts, more than 16,000 child care services could shut down in an effort to save the city around $90 million.

Many parents say the closures would be devastating and that they can't afford to pay for child care.

Bloomberg's executive budget has to be complete by the middle of June. If the cuts go through, day cares on the chopping block will close by September.
