THE BRONX - Bronx Councilwoman Helen Foster kicked off her campaign Tuesday protesting against drastic cuts to the city's senior centers.

Advocates say Gov. David Paterson's proposed budget would slash more than $25 million from senior funding, putting several centers on the chopping block.

During Paterson's town hall meeting Monday, one man voiced his concerns about the cuts, but the governor responded that there is no way to avoid them under the current economic conditions.

"We are making decisions based on very short-term situations," Paterson said. "The short-term situation is that the state runs out of money and them becomes insolvent."
