Bronx Rep. Jeffrey Dinowitz wants Common Core to include cursive writing, math memorization
THE BRONX - A Bronx assemblyman wants to add cursive writing and multiplication table memorization to the state's controversial Common Core requirements.
Rep. Jeffrey Dinowitz plans to introduce legislation that would bring handwriting practice back to the classroom, along with math memorization.
The new stricter academic standards doesn't require those two fundamental practices, which were once a staple in any elementary school classroom.

Many Bronx parents were split on the importance of cursive writing and times tables, but they overall agree that students have to be prepared to compete globally using any tools they can.
