THE BRONX - Many Bronx residents gathered at Ferry Dock on City Island today for the annual Blessing of the Fleet.

The Blessing of the Fleet is a longstanding naval tradition symbolizing the start of the boating season on City Island.

For many boaters, this was their first time back at sea since docking their vessels during the off-season.

One by one, more than 100 boats made their way passed Hart Island to receive a blessing on the water. Each of the boats received a prayer from a representative of the Catholic, Methodist and Jewish faiths.

Many Bronx residents watching from the pier say they comeout every year to see the dozens of boats set sail. The sailors are in agreement that they are looking forward to a safe and fun summer with plenty of relaxing days on the water.
