Bronx residents graduate from diabetes program

THE BRONX - Some Bronx residents are celebrating after graduating from a diabetes-wellness workshop with a better understanding of how to manage their disease.

Residents who signed up for the free six-week course learned about topics such as preventing complications, exercise and nutrition.

Experts say one in eight New York City residents have diabetes and that nearly 60 percent are African-American or Latino.

One graduate described the program as self-management education and says the program has really helped.
