YONKERS - The Bronx River Parkway was closed due to a bomb scare during the afternoon rush hour Monday, causing major delays for commuters.

Westchester County police closed the parkway in both directions at exit 10 after maintenance workers found a suspicious device.

Traffic on the southbound side of the parkway was being diverted to Bronx River Road in Yonkers. Northbound traffic was being diverted at 233rd Street.

Westchester County workers found the device earlier today while doing maintenance under Yonkers Avenue where it crosses with the Bronx River Parkway.

Investigators say all threats have been eliminated.
