Bronx school aide arrested on student rape charge

THE BRONX - A school aide at Intermediate School 162 in the Bronx was arrested Wednesday for allegedly raping a student.

Anthony Casey Jr., 22, faces charges of rape, sexual abuse, sexual misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child. Officials started the investigation after school officials contacted them.

According to the special commissioner of investigation for New York City public schools, Casey engaged in sexual misconduct with a 13-year-old, eighth-grade female student on three occasions.

Authorities said the incidents occurred twice in May and once in June, with the last two times happening at Casey's Townsend Avenue apartment.

The Department of Education has suspended Casey, who worked for the DOE for two years, without pay.

If convicted, Casey could face at least 10 years in prison.
