Bronx senior suing store over fall

THE BRONX - An 88-year-old Bronx woman is suing a 99-cent store where she says she was nearly killed after falling through an open cellar door last month.

Carmella Purcell says she and her sister, Josephine, were shopping at the store on Westchester Avenue May 13 when she fell through a wide-open cellar door, tumbling at least 4 feet down a flight of wooden stairs.

Purcell suffered a head injury and bruises. Nearly a month later, she says she still spends her days trapped at home and in pain.

The workers at the 99-cent store declined to comment on the incident.
