A 59-year-old woman was shot and killed in The Bronx this afternoon, marking the first homicide of 2013 in New York City.

THE BRONX - A 59-year-old woman was shot and killed in The Bronx this afternoon, marking the first homicide of 2013 in New York City.

According to police, the victim was hit in the chest at the James Monroe Houses at 1790 Story Ave.

She was pronounced dead at the scene at around 1 p.m. today.

Police say the woman's daughter was also injured at the scene. She is currently in stable condition at Jacobi Hospital. Officials say the victim was either shot or pistol-whipped in the head.

Sources say the alleged shooter is dating the victim's daughter. The suspect fled the scene, and police are currently searching for him.
