CO-OP CITY - Students in the Bronx turned their notebooks in for shovels Friday in Co-op City.

Over 200 P.S. 153 students planted daffodils at the Rivers Run Community Garden.

The blooms were donated to the park by the Daffodil Project.

Fourth- and fifth-graders walked along several stations and learned about planting and composting, and participated in some arts and crafts.

The students as well as the Rivers Run Community Garden committee members benefited from the visit.

"They're helping us put the garden to bed by planting daffodils for next spring, planting rye grass as a cover crop for next spring, and general cleanup and maintenance," says committee member Denise Shelley.

The visit was organized by Councilman Andy King.
