THE BRONX - Bronx students are spending their days practicing music at M.S. 529 with the new summer program Education Through Music.

The children, in anywhere between fourth and eighth grade, spend their days performing in bands and orchestras as well as participating in musical theater.

Even though these students spend all day with instruments in hand, they say they're learning about a lot more than just music. "Music helps to teach them to think," says field supervisor Allison Mickelson. "So they are synthesizing all of this different information while reading music."

This is the first year for the program. It costs about $300 for the four-week session. Students will put on a performance for friends and family at the end of the session.
