Bronx teen killed in police-involved shooting

THE BRONX - Police say a 17-year-old boy was shot and killed today by a detective during a drug bust.

According to authorities, Nelson Reaves bought crack-cocaine from an undercover NYPD detective outside 1409 Prospect Ave. Police say during the bust, Reaves pulled out a gun and attempted to rob the undercover officer, who then fired his weapon four times, killing the young teenager.

Police say the narcotics detective who fired the shots will be placed on desk duty while the investigation into the incident continues.

News 12 The Bronx has learned that Reaves has a prior arrest for weapons possession and disorderly conduct.

Friend and family of Reeves say a memorial will be set up on Freeman Street and Lyman Place.
