WESTCHESTER - A New York Yankees legend is helping one Bronx teen begin her college career.

Tiffany Tavarez started her freshman year at the College of New Rochelle this week, all thanks to former Bronx Bomber Mariano Rivera.

The 18-year old is the first person to receive the Mariano Rivera Scholarship, allowing her to become the very first person in her family to attend college.

Tavarez says her family has a personal friendship with Rivera and he didn't want to see her struggle to afford a higher education.
