Bronx youth hopeful to find work this summer

THE BRONX - Youth in the Bronx are hopeful a measure passed by the U.S. House of Representatives will help them find employment this summer.

Yesterday, the state labor commissioner urged the federal government to provide funding to save 21,000 jobs. Congress responded by passing the American Jobs and Closing Loopholes Act, which provides resources and employment.

In order for the city to receive the $23 million, it must pass the U.S. Senate. City officials also believe the restoration of more than $19 million in funds cut by Gov. David Paterson (D-N.Y.) will also lower the current state youth unemployment rate of 18 percent.
