THE BRONX - The famed Bronx Zoo cobra and peahen may soon be calling a new zoo their home. The Bronx Zoo could lose half of its operating funds under Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposed budget.

Zoo directors say they would have to reduce staff, close exhibits and shorten hours. Officials may even send some animals to other zoos.

The Wildlife Conservation Society is starting a petition to stop cuts to the Zoo and New York Aquarium.
