THE BRONX - Hundreds of children took over the streets of Morris Park Sunday in celebration of the 60th Bronxchester Little League parade.

The parade was kicked off by the color guard and marching band, which led about 300 little leaguers displaying team banners and showing off their uniforms. The procession ended on the field that has serviced Bronx youth for decades.

The Bronxchester league was first established in 1950 and games were played in a stadium in Throgs Neck. Coaches say the league expanded to 22 teams by 1965. The league, they say, keeps young people off the streets and involved in an activity focused on commitment and teamwork.

"It helps them interact with people and they get the sense of sharing and doing things together as a team," Brenda Velez, a parent, says.
