THE BRONX - The brother of Andrea Hurd, a woman allegedly killed and then thrown off her roof, says his sister was addicted to drugs.

Joseph Hurd  says Andrea had a rough time with the death of their mother and was also diagnosed with HIV. Andrea was also legally blind and hopelessly addicted to drugs.

Police say Hurd was stabbed to death in her Melrose apartment, then thrown off of her roof. They arrested 35-year-old Duvale Stevens for her murder. Hurd's brother says that he does not know Stevens, but he does know that last month police kicked out drug dealers that were squatting in her apartment.

Stevens is now facing several charges including second degree murder and manslaughter.

A memorial service will be held for Hurd this Friday at 7 p.m. at Greater Faith Temple on White Plains Road.
