THE BRONX - A family is mourning the loss of a 27-year-old woman who died in a hit-and-run accident on Sunday morning.

The victim has been identified as Maria Valencia.

Police say they received a call around 5:00 a.m. on Sunday that a girl had been hit on Bruckner Boulevard.

By the time emergency crews could respond, Valencia had already died.

A witness told police that a black sedan struck Valencia and sped off. Investigators say she was trying to cross the street when she was hit.

Valencia's sister say her parents in Mexico want her remains to be taken there, but they don't have the money.
