THE BRONX - Thousands of Bronx building workers will be going to work this week after reaching a contract deal with the Realty Advisory Board.

Local 32BJ, the union that represents porters, janitors, supers and maintenance workers in the borough, has been fighting for better retirement and health care benefits for weeks.

The union had threatened that 3,000 members would go on strike when their contracts expired at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. had been calling for fair negotiations, warning a strike would be devastating to Bronx tenants.
